Position Overview:

Brown Jug is a premium retailer of wine, beer, and spirits. We offer a great place to work, with a friendly atmosphere and energetic environment. We provide our customers with convenience, selection, and top-notch service! We are seeking an Assistant Store Manager for store 212 at 9200 Old Seward Highway in Anchorage. The role involves leading a multimillion-dollar business unit, focusing on delivering an exceptional customer experience, training and developing team members, and establishing a strong sales culture with accountability for operational excellence and achievement of financial and regulatory standards.

Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

People Management Skills:

  • Create a work culture that makes your store an inviting place to work
  • Coach, mentor, and inspire team members as a role model
  • Delegate tasks and set priorities
  • Communicate clearly in team meetings, huddles, and coaching sessions
  • Participate in recruitment and create succession plans
  • Support performance improvement through ongoing coaching
  • Ensure team completes required training timely
  • Create and monitor efficient weekly store schedules

Customer Offering:

  • Deliver exemplary customer service
  • Utilize the 5 Non-Negotiables: Greet, Engage, Build, Add-on, and Thank
  • Resolve customer complaints
  • Review customer surveys and manage responses
  • Evaluate and recommend programs and promotions
  • Set the example of store excellence and operational awareness
  • Follow business needs using customer flow heat maps

Work Schedule Requirements:

  • Work at least two Saturdays per month (Feb-Nov)
  • Every weekend in December
  • Flexible scheduling in January
  • At least one mid-shift weekly (until 7 or 8 pm)
  • At least three closing shifts per month (or one closing and two until 10 pm for certain stores)
  • At least one opening shift weekly

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Plan and organize labor, inventory, and finances for success
  • Meet or exceed financial targets with Area Manager support
  • Review and monitor Loss Prevention
  • Ensure accuracy of financial documents
  • Adjust schedules to control labor costs
  • Develop plans to address budget trends

Day-to-Day Operations:

  • Follow merchandising and pricing guidelines
  • Maintain store cleanliness and address maintenance issues
  • Execute merchandising programs and track results
  • Manage communication channels
  • Maintain inventory levels and handle ordering/receiving
  • Respond to customer complaints
  • Participate in safety and LP meetings
  • Share industry knowledge and develop stakeholder relationships
  • Set daily store tasks and oversee promotions

Regulatory Adherence:

  • Implement and follow OHS, LP, TAP/Rserving, and other regulations
  • Participate in inspections and audits
  • Maintain required training certifications
  • Ensure compliance with AK ABC Board and other guidelines
  • Follow company policies, including social responsibility

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • At least 1 year retail experience
  • At least 1 year supervisory/management experience (preferred)

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • TAP or Rserving Certification
  • First-Aid certification (asset)
  • Experience in wine/beer/spirits (preferred)

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work varied schedules, including evenings and weekends
  • Lift up to 50 pounds safely
  • Stand for extended periods
  • Climb ladders comfortably
