Job Summary

The Quality Assurance Construction Inspector I ensures compliance with drawings, specifications, standards, codes, and all contract documents for Anchorage School District construction projects. The inspector assists the project manager in reviewing requests for information, change orders, and other documentation to ensure constructability, accuracy, and conformance to contract documents. This position is part of the department's Quality Assurance/Quality Control program and has a retirement association with PERS.

Minimum Requirements

1. A high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Training or coursework in construction management, engineering, project management, or construction materials, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
3. Four years of construction QA/QC experience.
4. Experience inspecting major facilities construction projects.
5. Knowledge of a broad spectrum of construction materials, methods, and processes.
6. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications to identify discrepancies.
7. Knowledge of civil, architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical systems design and standards.
8. Knowledge of current building codes, OSHA, ADA, asbestos regulations, SWPPP, and other relevant laws.
9. Good written and oral communication skills.
10. Experience with project management software and Microsoft Office suite.
11. Good time management skills and attention to detail.
12. Valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Knowledge of Department of Education specifications for school design and construction.
2. Knowledge of Municipality of Anchorage Standard Specifications (MASS).
3. Certifications such as Quality Control Manager, ICC Commercial Building Inspector, NICET, ACI, WAQTC, OSHA 30-hr.
4. Experience with special inspections on large, complex projects.

Essential Job Functions

1. Inspect all civil, architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical aspects of construction projects for compliance.
2. Coordinate with municipality inspectors and special inspectors.
3. Prepare and submit daily inspection reports.
4. Review plans, specifications, shop drawings, and submittals.
5. Verify materials stored on site and document conditions.
6. Photograph and document pre-construction and in-progress work.
7. Verify record drawings are current.
8. Assist in material sampling and testing coordination.
9. Participate in progress meetings and review schedules.
10. Validate contractor payment requests based on work progress.
11. Participate in design and plan review sessions.
12. Maintain relevant certifications.

Physical and Work Environment

The role requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Visual acuity is necessary, along with the ability to lift less than 40 lbs. The work environment includes outdoor conditions and moderate noise levels.

Employees must be able to understand and follow instructions, handle conflicts, and work under pressure in a diverse environment.
