Join our Fixed Assets Team in the Accounting Department! This is a union-represented full-time onsite position, and is a member of the IBEW union. Our union offers excellent benefits and terms for our union staff. This recruitment effort is for Plant Accountant II role.

Summary

Under minimal supervision, provides accurate and complete accounting records which conform toanapproved system of accounts and which reflect thefinancial position of Chugach.Thisposition is responsible fortheproper unitization of all plant assets and the maintenance of a fixed asset system.

RepresentativeDuties

  1. Maintainstheongoing accuracyofcontinuingpropertyrecords.
  2. Performsanalysis and finalAccounting Department close-out ofcapital andretirement work orders according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations.
    • Verifiesprojectsmeetthecapital improvement/upgrade/retirementcriteria.
    • Meetswithother Department personnel when necessary to ensureappropriate adjustments are made to project costs.
    • Assessesotheraccountingsub-systemstoensureworkorderscanbe closed.
    • Runs work order reports, reviews staking sheets and close-out documentation, translates constructionassemblyunits andvalidatesall accounts forprojects, and creates applicable work order system.
    • Enters project cost information into theappropriate application or prepares supporting close-out spreadsheets,creates and verifiescostsforjournal entries,and verifies individual project cost data for each work order.
    • Createswork order close-out packetforfinal reviewandauthorization.
  3. Maintainsspecial equipment recordsandprepares related reportsfornewand retired equipment.
  4. Coordinatesinventory preparation withInformation Services andwarehouse personnel. Participate in thephysical count of allinventories.Reviews, analyzes, and reconciles the physical inventory count and cyclecounts for all Chugach inventories.
  5. Prepares necessary documentation forState of Alaska (SOA) and Municipality of Anchorage (MOA)relocation billings and coordinates thefollow-up ondisputed issues. Calculates bills in accordance with project agreements received by SOA and MOA.
  6. Maintainshistoricalaccountingworkorderclose out information.
  7. Prepares inventorybilling forChugach's jointly owned inventory.Preparesjournal entries to accurately record shared inventory.
  8. Preparesnecessary documentation forCapital Expensebillings toML&P related to Southcentral PowerPlant (SPP).Maintains theML&P SPP BillingStatus Report. Attends SPP O&M meetings to report on billing or inventory, as needed.
  9. Preparesanalysisofselectedgeneral ledgeraccounts.
  10. Prepares and maintains records of Chugach's Undergrounding Surcharge revenues expended forqualified undergroundtooverhead distribution lineprojects.Prepares and provides data for DistributionEngineering'sannualUndergrounding Surcharge report.
  11. Prepares monthly, quarterly, and year-end audit and otherschedules/reportsforareas of responsibility.
  12. Prepares necessarydocumentation forDepartment ofTransportation(DOT) audit of distribution and transmission overhead rates and projects.
  13. Reviews,updatesandverified standard coststables.
  14. Performsotherjob-relateddutiesasassigned.

JobQualifications

PlantAccountantII/III-Grade8/Grade9

Education

Ahigh schooldiploma orequivalent isrequired.Must have completednine(9)semester credit hours of college-level accounting courses, including general accounting, principles of accounting, managerial accounting, cost accounting, or moreadvanced related coursework.A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.

Experience

Three(3) years ofaccounting experience is required, two(2)of which must bein propertyplant and equipment accounting.Utility accounting experience is preferred.

Education/ExperienceSubstitution

Additional accounting experiencebeyond thespecified three-yearminimum maybesubstituted for the educational requirementsat the rateofone (1) yearaccounting experience forthree (3) semester credit hours of accounting coursework. Additional accounting education beyond the specified nine (9)semester credit hoursof college-level accounting courses may besubstituted for the experience requirements at therate of three (3) semester credit hours accounting coursework for one (1) year accounting experience.

AdvancementQualifications

Inorder toadvance to Plant Accountant III-Grade 9, thePlant Account II-Grade 8 must meet oneofthefollowing requirements. These requirementsarenot in addition to thoseforthePlant AccountantIIqualificationslisted above. Education/experiencesubstitutions arenotpermitted. These options areintendedtoprovidea career path toa Grade9 position; they arenotintended to be general Grade 9 classification qualificationrequirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting plus two (2) years combined accounting experience working as a general ledger accountant, costaccountant, orplant accountant. One (1) of the two (2) years of accounting experience must be as a ChugachElectricAssociation General LedgerAccountant and/orPlantAccountant II.

OR

  1. Fifteen (15) semester credit hours ofcollege-levelaccounting plus four (4) years of combined accounting experience.Two (2) ofthe four years' accounting experience must beasageneral ledgeraccountant, costaccountantand/ or plant accountant. One (1)ofwhich mustasaChugach Electric Association GeneralLedger Accountant and/or Plant AccountantII.

OR

  1. Nine(9)semester credit hoursof college-levelaccounting (three (3)hoursof which must be in cost accounting), plus three (3) years of combined accounting experience workingasaChugach ElectricAssociation General Ledger Accountant and/orPlant

Accountant IorII;two(2)ofwhich must beas aChugach GeneralLedger Accountant or Plant AccountantII.

JobKnowledge/Skills/Abilities

Must befamiliar with and understand accounting principles, account reconciliationand analysis, accounting spreadsheets and invoicing.A working knowledge ofutility,construction or engineering cost accounting concepts, including assembly units, standard cost and project unitization ispreferred.A workingknowledge ofupdating andmaintaining fixed asset recordsis preferred.A basic understanding of engineering methodology and terminology is preferred.

Proficiency in the useof spreadsheet software applications is required.Must have strong numericaldata entry skills.Must be able toorganize and manage multipleprojects and priorities.Must have strong communicationskills,including the ability to interprettechnical data and communicate technical data/informationto other personnel.Must possess problem-solving and analytical thinkingskills. Mustbecourteous andconsiderate ofotheremployees and thepublic.

SpecialPositionRequirements

Occasional overtimeand travel (sometimes including multipleday/overnight travel) maybe required.

WorkingConditions

Workisperformed inastandard officeenvironment with regularlyscheduled workinghours. Periodic travel to other sites, including warehouse sites, is required.
