SLR International Corporation is seeking an Associate-level Geologist or Engineer with 5-7 years of experience to join our Anchorage, Alaska operations. The candidate selected for this role will work within our Alaska Land and Water Group, supporting a variety of functions related to contaminated site investigation and remediation. Preferable candidates will have experience in consulting and/or industry, preferably focused on Alaska projects. SLR provides great opportunities for growth and gaining broad experience in site investigation and cleanup, waste management, environmental permitting and compliance, and air quality.

Required Technical Skills and Experience
  1. Bachelor of Science in Geology, Hydrogeology, Engineering, or related field required (Master of Science preferred)
  2. 5-7 years of experience in environmental consulting required
  3. Proficient in fieldwork tasks such as soil sampling, groundwater sampling, borehole logging, well installation, soil-vapor sampling, and soil and groundwater remediation
  4. Excellent written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills
  5. Ability to work on a team and independently in a fast-paced consulting environment
  6. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of software
  7. Possess valid driver's license
  8. Willing to commit to field assignments of up to two weeks away from Anchorage
  9. Ability to travel by airplane and car, including frequent overnight travel during the field season

Preferred Technical Skills and Experience
  1. Master of Science in Geology, Hydrogeology, Engineering, or related field preferred
  2. Understanding of soil and groundwater contamination assessment & remediation (e.g., methods, chemistry)
  3. Knowledge of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation and EPA regulations
  4. Skilled in writing technical documents and reports
  5. Ability to train and mentor junior staff
  6. Understanding of civil construction and industrial operations, including associated equipment, large and small
  7. Knowledge of chemistry and analytical methods for testing soil, water, or waste
  8. OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification

Physical Demands

Position is office-based, but field work and travel may be required as part of this position. With or without reasonable accommodation, employees will occasionally be required to perform the following tasks:

  • Ability to perform field assignments lasting up to two weeks in duration
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of climate conditions (including the Arctic)
  • Ability to travel by airplane, helicopter, and car, including overnight travel
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds
  • Work at high elevations
  • Frequently walk or climb stairs
  • Lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 35 pounds
  • Handle large items

Key Responsibilities
  1. Work with clients from a variety of industries or agencies
  2. Collect groundwater, surface water, and soil samples
  3. Prepare technical plans and reports
  4. Review State, Federal, and Local regulations for applicability to site cleanup
  5. Assist other SLR teams with work in a variety of disciplines including air monitoring, waste management, permitting, and compliance
  6. Travel to clients' facilities for inspections and document review
  7. Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments

Compensation Range:

The salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $85,000.00 to $105,000.00. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography.
