Alaska Pacific University (APU) invites applications for Assistant/ Associate Professors of Nursing with demonstrated professional teaching experience and a medical-surgical nursing or critical care background. Applicants must have the desire to teach both practical nursing and associate degree nursing students using a culturally safe curriculum that recognizes the needs of Alaska Native people and rural communities.

THE PROGRAM AREAS: APU currently offers the nationally accredited RN-to-BSN degree, an associate degree, practical nursing to RN bridge and licensed practical nursing certificate. In addition to teaching, this position will assist with mentoring and advising students, curriculum evaluation and assessment, and maintaining accreditation standards. The nursing programs are housed in APU's Institute of Health & Wellness. The nursing programs utilize diverse delivery formats, and the foundation of the program is grounded in the principles of cultural safety and evidence-based practice. The goal of the program is to advance culturally safe nursing care and health outcomes for individuals, communities, and organizations.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: The position is a 9-month or 10-month contract, typically teaching 3-4 courses each semester. Course assignments may fall within the content areas of cultural safety, nursing foundations, medical surgical nursing, pharmacology, culturally safe behavioral health, ethics, prenatal and postnatal care, care of children, and other nursing related-content areas. All faculty are encouraged to develop professional expertise or scholarship in their chosen field. Faculty are expected to participate in outcomes assessment, curriculum development, advising, student activities, and other services to the university and broader community. This position may include travel to teach didactic and coordinate clinical nursing experiences in rural villages. Course release time for administrative responsibilities such as program coordination, curriculum, and partnership development will be evaluated individually.

SALARY: Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and teaching experience and is prescribed by a university-wide salary range. APU is a non-tenure college; faculty are eligible for multiyear appointments after initial contracts.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Fall 2025

QUALIFICATIONS: To meet accreditation standards, candidates must have a master's degree in nursing at a minimum, and encumbered licensure as a nurse in Alaska is preferred. Candidates should be able to demonstrate expertise and core clinical competency. Successful candidates include those with proficient teaching, with active learning strategies and student mentoring or those with extensive professional experience and clinical practice.
