As the Director of Experience, you will be the ultimate curator of vibes at The Wildbirch Hotel—a newly reimagined and restored hotel in the heart of Anchorage. For decades, this hotel has forged a rich history, and now, with reimagined food and beverage offerings, connections to unique nature-filled experiences, and renovated rooms and private cabins, it is where historic charm meets rustic comfort with modern amenities.
This role requires energy, creativity, and the ability to execute year-round experiences for guests and the local community. You will activate physical spaces, build meaningful collaborations with local artists and adventurers, and document activations at the hotel to share with the world. You will also ideate and help shape the guest experience from check-in to check-out, ensuring every stay feels immersive, engaging, and unforgettable.
In the heart of Anchorage, where the urban landscape meets the untamed wilderness of Alaska, The Wildbirch Hotel stands as a beacon for the modern adventurer. We will be part of the Hyatt portfolio and is anticipated to be the first JdV by Hyatt property in Alaska. Nestled amidst the vibrant downtown energy, we're the ultimate urban base camp, inviting a new generation of explorers to experience the full majesty of Alaska while reveling in the rich cultural tapestry of Anchorage. www.wildbirchhotel.com
Must love connecting with people. If not already immersed in Anchorage's diverse and vibrant culture, you must have the charisma to rapidly build relationships as The Wildbirch Hotel establishes itself as a communal hub. You'll be supporting our adventure desk by knowing and recommending the best bars, best hikes, best food, best musicians, and best adventures—going beyond the standard tourist guides to uncover Anchorage's hidden gems.
You should be deeply invested in local art, music, and culture, familiar with Anchorage's concert venues, local haunts, galleries, and makers. The ideal candidate will already be connected to the city's tastemakers—or have the skills and curiosity to build those relationships quickly. You'll identify and foster mutually beneficial collaborations with artists, entrepreneurs, and experience providers to create compelling guest activations.
You should have a love for the Great Outdoors and an appreciation for the incredible adventures found in Anchorage and beyond. Whether it's summer hiking, winter skiing, or coastal exploration, you'll help guests connect with the best nature experiences the region has to offer. Familiarity with the outdoor sports industry is a plus.
You should love organizing and producing events—from large-scale parties to intimate gatherings. You'll take the lead on executing property activities, curating seasonal town activations, and crafting weekly programming for the hotel's restaurant and brewery, such as trivia nights, live music, and pop-up experiences—especially in the summer months.
Beyond curating engaging experiences, you must also understand how to estimate costs and potential benefits of activations, such as an artist-in-residence program, wellness workshops, or wine tastings. Your ability to plan and execute events within budget parameters will be critical. You'll also collaborate with community partners to share costs and enhance the range of offerings.
You'll play a key role in curating community partnerships and spearheading curated adventure itineraries and neighborhood guides to help guests explore Anchorage like a local. Whether through partnerships with tour operators, local businesses, or PR firms, you'll ensure The Wildbirch Hotel is a key player in Anchorage's experience economy.
Being the chief place-maker is a big role, requiring excellent communication, cooperation skills, and personal motivation. Sometimes, the team will need support in ways outside your official duties—just as the hotel staff will assist with special events, you'll lend a hand in other areas as needed.
Knowledge of hospitality, travel, event planning, branding, local culture, and the outdoor industry is a plus.
Experience in event production, cultural programming, or guest experience management preferred.
Bonus points if you speak additional languages.
Occasional travel for promotion and sales.
Salary range: $75,000 - $80,000
Additional perks include lodging discounts, adventure partnerships, and F&B benefits.
If you have a passion for people, places, and experiences, and love creating memorable moments, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today and help shape the culture and experience at The Wildbirch Hotel!
