Example of Duties
Support patrons of the Anchorage Public Library to facilitate increased access to community resources, health care, employment, behavioral health supports and housing. This is accomplished by providing information, navigation, outreach, and activities to patrons in the library in partnership with community agencies to maximize service delivery. Recruit and coordinate volunteers to assist with services to vulnerable populations. Oversee volunteers recruited from restorative justice programs. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Gather and maintain stocks of information resources relevant to vulnerable populations for distribution at Anchorage Public Library locations, Provide regular role modeling of best practices for interactions with patrons experiencing, complex needs for staff and security Coordinate volunteers related to the Community Resource Program, Recruit, train, oversee volunteers who can help provide direct services to unhoused and vulnerable populations in the library, oversee and coordinate activities of volunteers from community service or restorative justice programs, Respond to inquiries from the public and partner agencies about the program Direct Service, Provide information resources to library patrons both inside the library and at partner agencies, Help library patrons navigate other resources available in the community, Assist at library service points to assist all patrons and to observe how vulnerable, populations interact with library staff, resources, and community Internal Development and Administration, Attend library and municipal meetings and trainings, Participate in relevant professional development, Assist in preparing reports, including statistics, on the activities of the Community Resources teams
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and four (4) years of library clerical and/or technical experience.
OR
Associate's degree in Library Science or a related discipline and two (2) years of library clerical and/or technical experience.
OR
Bachelor's degree in Library Science or a related discipline and library experience.
Additional Important Information
Preference will be given to returning Seasonal Employees who are eligible for Recall as per AMEA 3.14.8, and to any current Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. Recalled and AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.
If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual's command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
