Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association (CIAA) has an opening for an Accounting Specialist, based at CIAA's Headquarters in Kenai, Alaska.

Description

This is a regular, part-time, non-exempt position, working 24 hours per week. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Accounting Specialist works to support the mission of CIAA by providing the support needed to handle accounting, accounting records, employee records, filing, and other office operations in a safe, professional, and cost effective manner. This position performs a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Assures the accrual basis accounting system is maintained by performing full-charge bookkeeping and accounting tasks such as general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable (i.e., billings) and journal entries.
  • Communicates with vendors, contractors, and staff in the verification and processing of payments. Maintains vendor and contractor files, ensuring current and accurate information.
  • Assures invoices are assigned to proper accounts, the accounts payable ledger ties to the general ledger, completes a monthly compilation of accounts payable, and prepares checks and bank transactions as required.
  • Prepares financial information and reports required by the Executive Director, Treasurer, auditors, or government agencies.
  • Maintains all financial reports including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger, prepares year-end closing, required tax forms, and pension plan balancing.
  • Handles all grant recordkeeping and reporting issues and assures that a/c codings to grants are appropriate and accurate.
  • Reconciles all bank statements and prepares reconcile reports for review and approval by the Executive Director and Treasurer.
  • Executes all payroll accounting, tax reporting, and preparation of payroll.
  • In coordination with the Executive Director and Hatchery Operations Manager, updates and maintains CIAA's asset list.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have three years minimum professional office experience in accounting or a two-year degree in accounting and a working knowledge of office management practices, standard accounting practices, and government grant reporting and record keeping. A valid Alaska driver's license is required. Proficiency with personal computers and software packages, including, but not limited to, Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and nonprofit accounting (Quickbooks) is required. Must have excellent oral, written, and organizational skills. Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 20 lbs.

Compensation

Salary range $24.00 - $31.35 per hour DOE. Employee 401(k) retirement plan, vacation and medical leave.
