Operations Manager

Description:

The Operations Manager leads aviation ground operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and customer-focused execution of daily activities. This role requires aviation industry knowledge and is responsible for supervising Operations Supervisors, Agents, and shift operations while maintaining compliance with regulatory and company standards.

The Operations Manager will serve as the primary liaison with airport authorities, airline partners, federal agencies, and other stakeholders. This role requires strong leadership, decision-making, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and develops operations team members by providing coaching, performance feedback, and development opportunities
  • Ensures safe and efficient daily operations, including ramp, passenger services, and dispatch support
  • Enforces and maintains compliance with TSA, FAA, CBP, OSHA, and company-specific policies and procedures
  • Oversees daily shift scheduling, staffing, and coordination of operational activities
  • Communicates with airline partners, airport officials, and other agencies to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Monitors operational metrics and respond to disruptions or irregular operations
  • Prepares reports, maintains accurate documentation, and participates in audits or investigations as needed
  • Fosters a culture of accountability, safety, customer service, and continuous improvement
  • Supports recruitment, onboarding, and training initiatives for ground operations staff
  • Represents the company professionally in all external interactions
  • Performs hands-on operational support during irregular operations or staff shortages
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in aviation ground handling, airline operations, or airport services, with at least 1-2 years of supervisory or management experience
  • Must pass a 10-year background check, including FBI fingerprinting and security threat assessment
  • Must pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing in accordance with DOT regulations
  • May be required to work overtime or adjust schedule during irregular operations or emergency response situations
  • Working knowledge of aviation industry standards, including ramp operations, load planning, aircraft servicing, and customer handling procedures
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Valid U.S. driver's license
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to obtain and maintain airport security badge and U.S. Customs clearance
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and work in inclement weather as needed
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Availability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
Desired Qualifications:
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Business, or related field (preferred)
  • Aircraft Dispatcher Certification
  • Experience with airline ticketing, baggage service, and DCS systems
  • Prior leadership experience in a unionized or regulated aviation environment
  • Familiarity with airport ramp operations, GSE coordination, aircraft turnarounds, and aviation safety protocols
  • Aviation operational knowledge
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, lift up to 60 pounds, and walk long distances as required
  • PPE: Hearing protection and safety gear must be used as required
  • Work Environment: Primarily indoor operations office environment with frequent exposure to outdoor airport conditions (noise, weather, and varying temperatures)
