Summary

This exciting entry-level, seasonal opportunity offers May to October work in remote Prince William Sound, Alaska while primarily living in Anchorage. Based in Anchorage, this position involves travel to Whittier and beyond for various vessel passenger and freight operations, as well as labor support for remote construction projects. As a Deckhand/Laborer, you will support the Chenega Regionals Development Group, LLC in promoting industry and development on Chenega native lands and waters in Prince William Sound. Marine operations include deckhand support for passenger and freight transports, oyster husbandry, and assisting our lands department with survey work. Construction projects involve providing labor and performing support at our various lodges, work projects, and infrastructure sites. The Deckhand/Laborer is primarily stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, but there will be occasional overnight trips to remote lodge locations when projects require (typically 2-4 days). This role requires strong communication and organization skills, dependability, cleanliness, socializing with clientele, careful adherence to instructions, and knowledge of safe working practices in an operations-oriented role.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and organize vessels, Chenega business spaces, apartments, and worksites.

  • Handle lines and assist the captain with general vessel operations.

  • Provide safety guidance to passengers.

  • Safely and efficiently handle freight and gear.

  • Participate in safety trainings and drills; wear proper PPE when required.

  • Maintain vehicles, equipment, and warehouse.

  • Operate company vehicles.

  • Identify and mitigate job site safety issues; adhere to site safety plans to maintain a safe work environment for employees, passengers, subcontractors, and vendors.

  • Handle materials manually and mechanically.

  • Assist with daily job reports, vessel manifests, vessel checklists, and other project documentation.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED preferred.

  • Valid Alaska Driver's License.

  • Maintains a favorable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Council members, Tribal Administrator and staff, village residents, Chenega Corporation staff, vendors, outside agencies, and the public.

  • Organize time efficiently, work with minimal supervision, be self-directed, and work independently.

  • Perform multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while delivering excellent service to internal and external customers.

  • Improvise, adapt to challenges, and work in a flexible environment.

  • Possess excellent organization and interpersonal skills.

  • Primarily Anchorage-based trips to Prince William Sound with occasional remote overnight work required.

  • Work in weather-exposed conditions, including rough seas, extreme hot and cold environments, and wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

  • Work will include long non-traditional hours, weekends, and holidays.
