We have professional project management and logistics staff as well as highly skilled field personnel capable of performing all aspects of our projects. Our team plans, conducts all logistics, executes, and manages heavy industry construction projects across the state, supporting development in some of the most environmentally and logistically complex locations in the world. Some of our notable work, including wind energy installation, communication tower installation, diesel generation upgrades and community bulk fuel system upgrades have provided even the most remote communities with essential services.
What can you expect?
As the Laborer, you will work in Alaska and will work in support of skilled workers and perform manual labor to complete general construction tasks as a productive member of the STG construction crew. Work will take place in the following villages: Kipnuk, Chefornak, Alakanuk, Kivalina, Tununak, Quinhagak, Kongiginak, Perryville, False Pass, Chignik Lagoon, and Kalskag. Please note that this position is reserved exclusively for local hires, and housing accommodations will not be provided in these areas.
How will you do it?
- Work closely and support a variety of skilled trades and construction activities.
- Follow directives from Project Foreman, and anyone senior, with the sense of duty to take initiative and remain productive at work.
- Perform physical labor that requires considerable use of one's arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials at construction sites.
- Load, offload, move and organize supplies, materials, tools and small equipment at barge landings, airstrips and on the job site.
- Prepare work sites, maintain safe work sites.
- Perform trade for long hours, day after day, often in adverse conditions, to complete the project at hand.
- Perform grounding, weatherproofing, and testing of various systems.
- Attend and participate in regular safety meetings.
- Adhere to and perform duties pursuant to the Company wide safety plan.
- Responsible for reporting any incident, situation or activity that may affect the Company's ability to operate safely, ethically and profitably to the supervisor and the Company Safety Manager.
- Duty to conduct oneself in the best interest of the company while on the job or representing STG.
- Act as a team member and mentor less experienced laborers.
- Cooking and cleaning as necessary in the shared living quarters.
- Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
- Maintain any required certifications mandatory by law or company policy.
- Work as a "team-player" with co-workers in a respectful and supportive manner.
- Seek and participate in development and on-the-job training opportunities.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - All around knowledge of materials, terms, and practices in construction field.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools.
- Ability to gain basic knowledge of rigging protocols and hand signals.
- Ability to safely utilize electronic test equipment and other specialized tools in performance of duties.
- Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, meeting deadlines and general time management.
- Ability to work in a team environment, take directions from supervisor(s) and other crew members, high degree of attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to project schedule.
- Ability to actively listen and follow instructions.
- Ability to work productively under pressure.
- Strong self-motivation and work ethic; ability to work with or without direct supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, regulations, instruction manuals, blueprints, and specifications.
- Ability to participate in group meetings.
- Ability to travel to remote places for work-related purposes (up to 100% of the time).
- Ability to report to work consistently on time and work a flexible schedule, up to 12 hours per day, 7 days per week.
- Ability to live and work with co-workers in close quarters and keep good morale.
Who is STG Inc. looking for? Minimum Qualifications: - First Aid/CPR training or ability to become certified.
- Preference to have a valid state driver's license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of STG's Driving Policy.
- Ability to pass a drug, driving, and background screening.
Preferred Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- One-year experience in the construction field preferred.
- Prior experience in Alaska's rural construction industry is preferred.
- Rigger/Signalperson certification preferred.
- Heavy equipment experience preferred.
