The Anchorage Daily News / adn.com, Alaska's most-read news source, is looking for an opinion editor. This key newsroom position is responsible for curating and producing a range of compelling opinion content that leads to conversations, is highly engaging and serves the community.
The ADN opinion space is a statewide town square for respectful discussion, ideas and solutions. Last year, we published more than 1,100 letters to the editor, hundreds of longer commentaries from Alaska writers, and dozens of staff-produced editorials. The opinion editor develops, solicits, edits and curates timely, thought-provoking commentary from regular contributors, subject-area experts, and community members, and will help develop strategies for engaging with readers and delivering this content across all our platforms, including new ones. Working with the editorial board, the opinion editor will write timely editorials speaking to key issues in Anchorage and statewide.
We're looking for someone with exceptional editing and organization skills. You need to be a master of strong and clear writing, accuracy, balance, fairness, ethics and style. You need a strong working knowledge of libel and copyright, know how to work constructively with contributors, and be able to find and nurture new ones. Strong knowledge of Alaska current events and history is essential.
We are strongly focused on and committed to audiences — serving them, listening to them, growing them, retaining them. We've been awarded three Pulitzer Prizes for public service, the latest in 2020. We have a long history of publishing thought-provoking commentary and being a forum for voices from across Alaska.
We're independently owned and value a diverse and inclusive workforce, work-life balance and workplace flexibility.
