Position Overview:

As a Department Sales Lead, you'll engage with Brown Jug customers, provide top-notch customer service, and help educate them about the great products we offer. The Department Sales Lead will provide leadership and direction in a specific department for Brown Jug at the Wasilla Warehouse Store (267), in partnership with the store manager. With a focus on delivering exceptional customer service, the Department Sales Lead will train and develop team members in product knowledge and upholding store standards, establish a strong sales culture with accountability for operational excellence, achievement of financial goals, and store standards.
Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
People Management Skills:
- Communicate in a clear and concise manner to team, lead effective huddles, coaching sessions, and delegate tasks to team members
- Support and coach others to improve any performance gaps
- Participate in department recruitment and succession plans for the store, in partnership with Store Manager
- Responsible for training store staff on key products in their departments
Customer Service Skills:- Deliver exemplary customer service
- Act as the store's product expert, educating customers on unique products and Brown Jug's private label offerings
- Resolve customer complaints regarding sales and service; inform the Store Manager of all complaints
- Accountable for department product rollout and product launches
- Evaluate programs and promotions for effectiveness and offer recommendations to Store Manager
- Greet each customer within 30 seconds of entering the department or store
- Thank every customer as they leave
- Engage with customers, to learn what the customer wants
- Build the sale by introducing new products to the customer and add on at the register
Schedule Requirements:Set the example of store excellence and ensure a solid awareness of all aspects of store operations, balancing the tasks with all managers in the store. Follow the business needs, using the heat map of customer flow. All managers are required to work the following schedules:
- December: Every weekend is required
- January: Flexible scheduling allowed for time off
Financial:- Ensure that goals will be met through appropriate planning and organization of labor, inventory, and finances for short- and long-term success
- Meet or exceed the department's Private Label targets
- Meet or exceed the department's financial targets, through partnership with the Store Manager
- Review and monitor Loss Prevention program to protect the company's inventory and assets, in Partnership with the Store Manager
- Monitor and make appropriate adjustments to scheduling to achieve labor cost
Individual Department Guidelines:Beer Department:- Ensure Growler Bar is meeting the margin guidelines
- Ensure the Growler Bar gas and supplies are clean and up to date
- Focus toward completing the Beer Cicerone training
- Actively participate in company tastings and training
- Keep beer set up to date
- Work with the sales representatives to verify shelves are full, clean, and faced to two weeks of sales
- Actively work on the sales floor during the busiest times of the day to observe, coach, and sell to the customers
Wine Department:- Ensure the wine department flows according to the wine set
- Ensure the products are full, clean, and faced consistently
- Focus toward completing the CSW or equivalent wine training
- Actively participate in company tastings and training
- Work with sales representatives to verify all products are ordered and abundant to two weeks of sales
- Actively work on the sales floor during the busiest times of the day to observe, coach, and sell to the customers
Liquor Department:- Ensure the liquor department flows according to the set
- Ensure the products are clean, full, and faced consistently
- Work with sales representatives to verify all products are ordered and abundant to two weeks of sales
- Actively participate in company tastings and training
- Focus toward completed CSS or equivalent liquor training
- Actively work on the sales floor during the busiest times of the day to observe, coach, and sell to the customers
Front End Department:- Actively participate in company tastings and training
- Ensure daily operating disciplines are met consistently
- Ensure the store is ready for business according to store standards, by scheduling manpower for the day
- Work with sales representatives to verify all products are ordered and abundant to two weeks of sales (NA and Cigarettes)
- Ensure all register supplies are abundant for business needs
Required Qualifications and Experience:- Customer service driven
- Effective leadership skills
- Strong sales background
- Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to pass background check
Required Education:- High School Diploma
- TAPs card
- Training in specific product department: Beer, Wine, Liquor (preferred)
- Certification in specific product department: Beer, Wine, Liquor (preferred)
Physical Requirements:- Available to work a varied retail schedule, including nights and weekends
- Able to safely lift up to 50 pounds
- Able to stand for an extended period of time
