Job Summary

The Senior Roofer installs, troubleshoots, and repairs roofing systems at Anchorage School District buildings and facilities. Maintenance employees work a 4/10 schedule with weekends and holidays off. Job Requirements

The following are required:

* A high school diploma or equivalent.

* A minimum of two years of experience within the past four years as a roofer.

* The Anchorage School District requires that the selected applicant for this position be given a conditional offer of employment contingent upon successfully passing a post offer/pre-employment physical capacities assessment. The following are preferred:

* Minimum of four years of experience within the past six years as a journeyman roofer. Work experience must evidence ability to perform tasks assigned.

Essential Job Functions

* Troubleshoots and repairs all major roofing systems including asphalt and wood shingles.

* Coordinates and establishes plans and procedures with supervisor relative to alterations required to existing roofing systems.

* Interprets and works from plans, prints, specifications, and established maintenance procedures.

* Estimates materials and labor requirements.

* Maintains knowledge of standard practices of the carpentry trade including, but not limited to tools, materials, proper methods and procedures used in both rough and finished carpentry.

* Follows standard practices of the roofing trade including, but not limited to tools, materials, proper methods, and procedures used in ERMA roofing systems, hot roofs, built-up roofs, and metal roofs.

* Uses and maintains hand and mechanical roofing tools.

* Performs other related duties such as carpentry and maintenance of doors and related hardware.

* Follows safety procedures appropriate to the roofing and building craft trades.

* Works cooperatively with others within established maintenance and safety procedures.

* Routinely works at heights over 20 feet.

* Proficiently uses appropriate computer applications for assigned areas of responsibility.

* Writes reports as required.

* Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.

* Works cooperatively with others and within established maintenance and safety procedures.

Physical /Mental Demands

The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
