Utilize considerable independence of judgment and action, within defined policies and instructions, for dispatching emergency personnel, in a team environment. Answer E911 and non-emergency calls. Establish priority of emergency calls and determines the level of response necessary. Utilize emergency medical and fire dispatching protocols to triage emergency and non-emergency calls. Maintain radio contact with on-duty units and maintain records of all radio transmissions. Enter appropriate data in computer and report forms as required. Answer calls for public inquiries or complaints and determines appropriate agency or person to handle. Utilize knowledge of basic fire and paramedic procedures and terminology. Work is in a high-demand, high-stress office environment that requires multi-tasking of several critical tasks at time, with frequent, repetitive motion of hands/fingers and occasional exposure to loud noises. Dispatch is a 24/7 operation that requires employees to work days, nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
