Students will assist the crew with snow removal, ice control, small/medium-duty equipment operation (trucks, Toolcats, snow blowers), interior plant care/greenhouse production, and other campus beautification tasks. The student should be a self-starter and punctual to work. The student must be able to work independently and in a diverse group setting including following instructions given by management and/or a Lead; relating in a positive manner to management and other employees; and assisting in providing a productive and safe work environment.

Education and/or Experiences: Any combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the skills and abilities necessary to accomplish the essential functions of the job.

Minimum Qualifications:

LICENSURES: A valid AK Driver's License and a DMV driving record meeting UA safe driver criteria is required for the position:

1. Possess a current, valid drivers license (probationary, court restricted, international drivers' license, or a drivers' permit are NOT acceptable);

2. Have at least three (3) years driving experience as a licensed driver;

3. Be in compliance with the State of Alaska's DMV licensing and insurance requirements;

4. Once employed, attend and successfully complete a campus approved drivers' safety course;

5. Have not been convicted within the last three years for:

? Two or more moving violations.

? Two or more at fault accidents.

? Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

? A pattern of moving violations or reckless driving behavior which is demonstrated by the accumulation of more than five points against their drivers' license.

Students must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; the ability to write routine reports and correspondence; and the ability to speak effectively with other employees of the organization, follow directions, and provide feedback to the supervisor.

NOTICE: Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) tax. A credit hour load below the minimum required for full-time student status will require the withholding of FICA tax (non-resident aliens on an appropriate visa who meet student employment criteria will continue to be exempt from FICA regardless of credit hour load). While in a student position, a student cannot hold any other type of simultaneous employment with the university.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAA Main campus in Anchorage. This is a part-time, student worker position. Starting pay is $15.26/hour.

This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.
